SERIES OF PAINTINGS„ALSEN-ZYKLUS“ FROM ARTIST JENS RUSCH GOES TO WACKEN FOUNDATION
The sizes are remarkable – some of them are bigger than 270 x 210 cm. Artist Jens Rusch is nor unknown in Germanys federal state Schleswig-Holstein. His artworks are hanging in the state parliament, a symbol painting of Schleswig-Holstein even in the state chancellery, in banks and shipping companies. His bronzes are placed in public space. He received cultural awards . Why is somebody like this giving away a whole series of paintings? His answer:
“It is because they have arosen in a four years long exceptional situation and they differentiate a lot from my other artworks”. For four years his friend Martin Kayenburg, before he became president of the sate parliament, he put an atelier on the Alsen demolition area on Rusch’s disposal. The graffiti mecca was a burnout bastion for Rusch, who painted his frustration about the artist-unfriendly art market from his chest.
At the same time Rusch was engaged in the extensive Wacken picture cycle. The working title of this project was W:O*Art and in this context Rusch got to know and came to appreciate the project “Wacken Foundation. “The aims of Holger Hübner and Thomas Jensen, to support new artists with this foundation are 100 % aligning with my own ideas” says the artist, who has been awarded last year as “Man of the year” by the newspaper publisher of Schleswig-Holstein for his own commitment.
It seems to be macabre but the material value of art follows strange criteria. Legacies, bequests by artists, particularly when documenting a complete creative period are achieving high prices only after the death of the artist. Therefore the advice of the artist himself to the Wacken Foundation is to initially store the paintings. But he does not have any influence on this anymore after handing over the paintings. What is going to happen with the artworks will according to the German foundation law now solely be determined by the board of directors of the foundation.
The Wacken Foundation thanks Jens Rusch for his generous donation and is looking forward to future joint projects.
WACKEN FOUNDATION ON THE HAMBURG METAL DAYZ
The Wacken Foundation was present at the Hamburg Metal Dayz in order to communicate the foundation’s mission and to call the attention of other bands from the metal scene on the possibilities that are offered by the Wacken Foundation, the foundation was represented with an info booth at the Hamburg Metal Dayz. Every day there was taking place a raffle of a guitar that has been provided by EPIPHONE. The proceeds of € 1 per participant benefited 100 % the Wacken Foundation. Besides an information booth the curator Enno Heymann represented the foundation during a panel about the topic support of newcomers.
The Wacken Foundation’s mission is to promote rock and metal music and has and will support promising metal bands and artists.
A contribution has been provided by the band Heaven Shall Burn, one of the most important representatives of the Metalcore genre on the festival. They donated the Wacken Foundation half of theirfee for their headliner performance on Thursday. Guitarist Maik Weichert explains: “Since some time we are working together with the youth club VorTEFFlich from Weimar on a Metal workshop project. This is great fun and some of the young musicians are real talents! As young musicians we ourselves profited from
experienced metal and rock lovers showing us some tricks and ruses. In order to further develop the whole thing and maybe also create a basis for further similar projects with the Wacken Foundation we are performing for charity and will donate a part of our fee. Many people from the scene and the music industry are on site and of course we hope that we will enthuse more people for this kind of project.”
On Friday the curator Enno Heymann took part in the panel “Newcomer and promotion of young artists: How I can get my band over the first hurdle”. He used the possibility to explain the mission of the foundation and to discuss the topic promoting young artists with other experts. Also participants have been included in the discussion and have followed the panel with great interest.
The booth and the panel have been used by many guests as
information platform and therefore the Wacken Foundation will
certainly be on present at the next year’s Hamburg Metal Dayz.
